Founded by pastry chef Heather Hallett, a Chesapeake native with a lifelong love for baking, House of Marmalade® blends simple elegance with the warmth of classic European pastries. After earning a degree in pastry arts from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, Heather had the opportunity to study abroad in Switzerland and Italy, learning from some of Europe’s most talented pastry chefs. She then spent a decade honing her craft as a lead pastry chef in Boston, developing unique flavor profiles and perfecting her signature cake recipes before returning home in 2020. Inspired by her travels to England and love of the Royal Family, Heather opened House of Marmalade® in 2022, creating a space where timeless British treats meet a bespoke, artistic menu.
In a nod to the rich history of afternoon tea, the bakery specializes in traditional British treats like Bakewell Tarts, Battenberg Cakes, and shortbread cookies, alongside a selection of macarons, custom baked goods, and gluten-free options. The cakes are named after iconic areas of London, adding a personal touch to every creation. Each item is made with care, combining high-quality ingredients with time-honored techniques to create flavors that are both nostalgic and refined.
